3 Flea Market Finds—Transformed

by Woman's Day Staff

From Cheap to Chic

With some fabric, paint and a little TLC, contributing style editor Eddie Ross freshened up furniture that he found at a twice-annual rummage sale in Somerset Hills, New Jersey, benefiting the Visiting Nurse Association. And following our how-to guides, you can do it, too! To find a sale near you, search the Flea Finder at FleaMarkets.com, and then flip through the slideshow to steal a few of Ross's renovation tricks.

Fabric-Covered Ottoman

A bench with great legs gets modernized with wood stain (we used Minwax Wood Finish in Dark Walnut from Minwax), a super chic fabric (we used Corn Yellow Zig Zag Stripes on Cotton Fabric from HancockFabrics.com) and trim (we used Premium Broadcloth in Solid Black from Fabric.com).

Elevated Lamps

Smart new feet (they're flat-front drawer knobs!) and a sleek shade (we used a 12"-tall shade for this 20"-tall base) add vintage flair to a basic table lamp.

Wallpaper-Covered Mirror

A worn-out Federal-style mirror goes from prim to playful with a little spray primer (we used Design Master from Michaels) and polka-dot print wallpaper (we used Ashford House Wire Dots from Yorkwall.com).
