Jimi Hendrix Was in the Army As a teenager, Jimi Hendrix got caught riding in stolen cars. He was given the choice between prison and military service. In 1961, he joined the U.S. Army. In 1962, he received an honorable discharge based on unsuitability. He went on to live a brilliant but brief life as a rock star. He died at age 27.

Sometimes, it takes an arbitrary holiday such as Veteran's Day to get us to really think about other people. I, for one, am guilty of taking the veterans of our country for granted. It's not that I don't appreciate them; I just don't think about it unless we become embroiled in a conflict or until the pundits start talking about the threat of war. But I am grateful for people who sacrifice for our country. They are special, and we should do more for veterans. They are the closest thing to real-life superheroes that we've got. And believe me, I've given a great deal of thought to superheroes existing in real life. So in honor of our veterans on Veteran's Day, let's take a look at some celebrities who sacrificed and served in the military. You might be surprised by some of them!
