How to Choose a Spring Scent

It's been a good week for celebrity fragrance news. For starters, you may have heard that Jennifer Aniston could be the next celebrity to jump on the fragrance bandwagon. And the other rumor we loved came from TVNZ-they reported that on a recent night out,P. Diddy arrived at a London club with an entourage of perfume sprayers to mist the room every 20 minutes while his songs played.

So while we were thinking about fragrance, we decided it was time for a change. After all, it's springtime-time to stow away the musk and wood in exchange for something a little fresher. Here are some tips for picking what you'll wear next:

  • Your nose can't deal with more than four fragrances on your skin at once, so don't spritz a row of perfumes up and down your arms. Start by smelling each one on a fragrance blotter.

  • Combat sensory overload between sniifs: ask someone at the counter if coffee beans are available (many counters have them) and take a cleansing whiff of them. Otherwise, just sniff at your sleeve.

  • When you have your final four picks, spritz each one on a different part of your body. Warm spots are the best places to spray a scent because fragrance is enhanced by heat. Try the hollow of the neck, behind your ears, the inner wrists, and crooks of the knees and elbows. Avoid spraying your clothes or hair-some fragrances can stain and leave your hair greasy.

  • Allow a half-hour for the fragrance to develop on your skin before you decide if it's The One.
