Experts have long drawn a correlation between lack of sleep and weight gain, but now a new study takes it a step further: Don't get enough sleep and you're liable to pack on pounds.

Researchers from the University of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin-Madison say that not getting enough sleep can "sabotage" weight loss goals, noting a correlation between lack of sleep and the body's tendency to hold on to pesky accumulations of fat.

The study examined the sleep/weight loss effects of good quality sleep (8.5 hours) vs. poor quality sleep (5.5 hours) and found that the good quality sleep group lost more fat than the poor quality group (even though their caloric intake was the same).

Sort of fascinating, isn't it?

How's your sleep lately? Getting somewhere in the good quality range (7.5-8.5 hours)?
