The Lowdown on American Apparel's New Neon Nail Polish

American Apparel's new Neon nail polishes ($6 each) are traffic-stoppingly bright, even in the bottle. They also happen to be more than a little reminiscent of the late '80s and early '90s DayGlo trend. After putting up a photo of the Neon Yellow, Neon Red, and Neon Coral shades on Facebook, our awesome fans wanted to see a picture, so here they are. (Remember: if you want to see something on the site, would like pictures of a product, or have a question, just ask Team Bella on Facebook.)

I really like these shades, even though they're so bright that they're distracting me as I type this. They're also fun colors, particularly the coral and the "red" (which is actually a pretty orange-pink by most standards). And because they're so opaque, you'll find that with two coats you'll be good to go.

My only qualms about these are the drying time and texture. Lots of neon polishes take longer to set, but the coral and yellow were still not dry almost an hour later. Also, since the polish is so viscous, it's easy to streak the bottom layer when you're applying the second one. I might suggest thinning it down a little with a quick-dry topcoat to make it easier to use. For the price, though, they're great shades and absolutely perfect for warmer-weathered seasons.
