Rachel Bilson's Summer Skincare Must-Haves!

I'll be the first to admit it--this Beauty Blogger is lucky indeed! Not only is my office swarming with the most delicious products out there, but I also get to interview beauty gurus, designers, and--now and then--celebrities.

Sometimes though, I'll meet a luminary and ask myself, "What's the fuss?" Not so with Rachel Bilson. She's one of my all-time favorites and, I'm happy to report, is just as adorable as you'd imagine. An added bonus? She's disarmingly open and down to earth. Consider, for instance, her confession of skin sins of summers past: "I used to lay out on the beach--I did grow up in Southern California, after all--and one time I had sun poisoning on my lips from being outside for too long. They were swollen to ten times their normal size," she recalls. "It was so embarrassing. But it was also a wake-up call about how strong and harmful sun exposure can be."

Safe summer skincare 101.

With that in mind, Rachel's spreading the message of sun safety this summer as a spokesperson for Jergens's Glow in the Dark campaign for the skin cancer foundation. "My mom and stepmom both had cancerous moles removed. So skin cancer is an important and personal cause for me," she says. "You know, I get why girls tan. That culture surrounded me my whole life. But I want people to realize that there's a way to get that look without harming your body."

Her beach-safe summer essentials are sunscreen-loaded lip glosses, serious SPF ("The higher the better!"), perfume oils, and mascara from Maybelline New York. And her secret weapon is Jergens Natural Glow moisturizer: "It's easy because it's all in one," she says. "It has SPF and it gives you that beachy look." From my point of view, though, Rachel's glow is more than just skin-deep (even if she credits "religious" use of sunscreen to her complexion). "I love being outdoors and at the beach," she says. "But I'm also a firm believer in taking care of your body however you can."
