5 Things We Saw at New York Fashion Week: Day 7

In our continuing coverage of New York Fashion Week, we're rounding up the top five things that catch our eye each day. Follow us on Twitter and check back from now through Thursday, February 16 for our top Fashion Week picks and you won't miss a thing.

    1. Extreme luxury at Michael Kors. While we weren't fans of the extravagant furs at Michael Kors, we swooned over the final six shimmering gowns--especially this gold paillette chemise. Loads of celebs like Stacy Keibler, Jessica Alba, Cash Warren, Anjelica Houston, Debra Messing, Katie Couric, Patti Hansen, Anna Wintour, Rachel Zoe, Paula Patton, and Amber Heard watched it glide down the catwalk from front row.

LIquid metallic gowns graced the Michael Kors runway

    2. Larger-than -life designs at Norma Kamali. Always the innovator, Kamali ditched live models and instead used 10' cardboard cutouts of ladies wearing her latest collection. Show-goers were able to mingle and get am up close view of the textiles.

    3. Marooned at Nannette Lepore. We think burgundy may be the next hot color trend--we've spotted it on dresses, tops, and even lips and nails. If you're bored of navy and gray, consider maroon the new neutral. How flattering is this feminine suit?

    4. Rose red at Marchesa. The theme of this season's show was "fallen angels" with nearly every model dressed in white, cream, pale gray, or gold. So when this final red embroidered gown came down the runway we literally got chills.

    5. Caftans at Anna Sui. The designer relies heavily on the 1960s for inspiration, and today's collection was no exception. We don't know when we'd have a use for a velvet and silk jacquard caftan, but it sure looks like fun to wear!

We're daydreaming about this Anna Sui caftan

No like models, Kamali? We are in a recession! Talk about budget cutbacks. The live models add to the drama of the runway. The cardboard cutouts leave me cold....

I wish the Kors' gold gown had been more tapered at the end. Looks a bit dumpy...

Right? Something "prommy" about the flared circle hem…kinda dreaming about this with a 20's flapper drapey dimensional skirt, maybe simple bias…IDK, but yeah the skirt struck me as "off"…maybe to heavy w/ sequins to translate? The skirt feels just "Not Quite Right"
